On February 14, 2008, my school newspaper published a special V-Day edition. V-Day is a rape awareness day sponsored by an organization affiliated with Eve Ensler, the producer of The Vagina Monologues. A graphic on the front page was an anatomical diagram of a vagina, the type one might find in a health text book. Shortly after the paper's distribution, the administration announced that teachers were not to distribute the paper and began confiscating issues, allegedly even snatching copies from students' hands as they read. The administration called the vagina graphic "obscene material". The next day, in protest, several students wore t-shirts reading "My Vagina is 'Obscene'." Many were sent to the dean and at least four were sent home for the day. I made these flyers and posted them around the school in protest of the administrations blatant censorship.
Thats a cool story, nice job man, fight the machine. I love the mix of retro style with modern contemporary art.
Last year a guy in my class had a naked woman in a revealing pose his final art piece and they made him redo it. It was a Catholic school so that may have had something to do with their decision but when you think about it, it's like, how immature are you to hide away something thats simply natural.
In fact, because you try remove it from the public eye, you only draw more attention to it and make something that once was fine into something more controversial and ultimately more popular.
One thing in have worked out about kids which i think is really awesome is that they can do anything they put their mind to as long as somebody tells them they can't first.
